Happy Thanksgiving

Even though it's dark, dreary and pouring rain, I feel incredibly thankful. So hug your babies and enjoy time with your family and friends this fine Thanksgiving morn. :)

Thanksgiving

So here's a little something to celebrate the day and the weekend.  Here's hoping you will spend it with friends and family.  Happy Thanksgiving!

I am especially thankful for supportive and loving people in my life: my dear hubby and my children.  At the same time I am saddened by the loss of someone whom I had believed to be a friend.  Nothing like stressful times to reveal the true nature of some individuals.  At least I can see clearly now . . .

Giving Thanks. . .

The air is crisp with a wee bit of coolness..  The bright blue sky reveals a glorious sun, but its warmth has waned.  And the leaves are turning bright red, yellow and orange.  Is it fall where you are?

This weekend I'm prepping for a mid-term, but still enjoying the peace and quiet of an extended weekend.  This time last year, we were surrounded by boxes upon boxes as we prepared to move three families into one farmhouse . . . so, its nice to be enjoying the fruits of our labours this Thanksgiving weekend.  Our own chickens are roasting in the oven and potaoes, carrots and turnips from the garden will be gracing the supper table.  We're even using our own apples for the pie and crisp that will serve as dessert. Yum!  What could be better?

So dear peeps, be thankful for all you have and I hope your weekend is filled with good times with family and friends.  Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving :)

To all my Canadian readers, hope you're enjoying the long weekend with family and friends.  And be sure to count your blessings.

We've been blessed with a great opportunity this fall.  This move to a place in the country is an opportunity to try our hand at homesteading.  We want to raise some livestock and grow as much of our own food as possible.  Eventually we'd like to get off the grid . . . but that's for the future.  Little steps.

Have a great Thanksgiving!

Happy Turkey Day

Here in the Great White North, it's a long weekend in celebration of Thanksgiving.  At the in-laws, we'll feast on the traditional turkey complete with stuffing, gravy and all the fixings.  And while we sit 'round the table, we'll reminisce and count our blessings.

When I was growing up, Thanksgiving was never a big deal in my immediate family (being from rural southern Italy, its not a holiday my parents celebrated).  Instead of turkey, we'd have antipasto, lasagna, followed by veal, veggies and all the fixings of a grand Italian feast (think six-course meal).  Not exactly a traditional Thanksgiving.

As I get older, it is not the type of foods we eat that matter.  Rather, it is the time spent with family that matters.  And more important, the recognition that there is value in being thankful and appreciating all that we have--'cuz sometimes it feels as if we don't have much when, in fact, we have more than we think we do.

Corny?  Maybe.  Perhaps just a wee bit nostalgic?  Maybe.  My parents, brother, sisters and their children live halfway across the country.  I haven't seen them in a few years.  Sure we talk on the phone and catch up on Facebook, but its not the same as being together in-person.  I miss them.  And its usually 'round the holidays when I realize how much I  do miss them.

Hope you get to spend this weekend with your family and loved ones.  Have a good Thanksgiving. :)

Happy Thanksgiving All

Here in the Great White North, its a long weekend on account of Thanksgiving. Unlike our American neighbours who celebrate in November, our day of thanks falls on the second Monday of October.

So wherever you are, here's hoping you're feeling thankful and life is good.  Happy Thanksgiving!
